Common Northeastern Tree Diseases & Pests

Woodpeckers

A woodpecker's presence usually suggests pests such as bugs or larvae that feast on the tree and can transmit disease. The "holes" the woodpeckers create can also expose the tree to further infection or disease.

NorthEastern Spongy Moth

Also known as the "Gypsy moths", this species of moth is commonly known to create silk-like sac's on the ends of tree branches. Once the larva hatch, they quickly feast on the trees foliage. Their rapid growth and reproductive rates can become deadly to the host tree and trees nearby.

Root-Rot

Any visible signs of rot or decay on your tree are not good. The most dangerous of these is "root rot". Root rot is commonly missed as the decay primarily happens beneath the soil, away from view.
